Here in Jamaica!

Minutes before landing in Montego Bay, Jamaica

We left for Jamaica this morning and now that we are here, we are even more excited about the prospect of working with our Jamaican client, Geddes Estate in St. Ann, and learning more about Jamaican culture. Over the next week, one team will be reaching out to the local community to raise awareness about the benefits of organic farming and crop rotation, such as producing crops without the risks from harmful pesticides. Another team will be exploring the potential for using the caves on Geddes Estate as a natural ecological resource that could benefit the resort in terms of tourism revenue while still preserving the caves’ natural beauty.

Throughout the past semester and in the time leading up to our departure, we have done various fundraisers, such as an on-campus Escape Room at Nipissing University, a bake sale at the annual Downtown Christmas Walk in North Bay, and a silent auction and trivia night at the Fox and Fiddle. Thank you to all Nipissing University staff, faculty, and students, as well as members of the North Bay community who attended these fundraising events and made them all worth it. A special thanks to the coordinator at the School of Business, Carly Turcotte, for all the time and effort she has put in that made these fundraising events possible.

These fundraisers were also made possible through the support and donations from the Sparrow Family, Nipissing University’s School of Business, and the local business community including: John Chipman of Best Western, Muskoka, the Fox and Fiddle, The Creative Hive, David’s Tea, and Creative Learning.
